I. Outline and Characteristics of This Database
This Database has been made by the Fungus Team (for members and institutions, click this "Fungus Team")
under financial support of the GBIF Japan project for 2002.
The first version covers essential information for 8514 fungal specimens and 89 living strains which are being maintained at the seven selected Japanese herbaria (for details, click this "Selected Japanese Herbaria").
The target phyla are Chytridiomycota, Zygomycota, Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, and anamorphic (mitotic) fungi, including some specimens of so-called "Pseudofungi". Strain data derived from some of these specimens, which are maintained at Japan Collection of Microorganisms (JCM), are linked to their original specimens in TNS.
The acronyms for the herbaria, except for the Herbarium of Institute of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Tsukuba (TSH), are provided in "Index Herbariorum (part 1: The herbaria of the world, 8th Edition" (http://www.nybg.org/bsci/ih/ih.html, Last updated: 05/12/2003 ).

Nomenclatural status : shows kinds of nomenclatural types, i.e. Holotype, Paratype, etc., or Voucher specimen of DNA-analysis.
